School Board Looking for a New Collection Agency

Hazleton (PA) Area School Board wants to hear from several debt collection agencies before deciding on whether it will retain Portnoff Law Associates as its delinquent tax collector.

Following two separate votes and a lengthy debate, the school board last week shot down Director Sean Shamany’s motion appointing the Wynnewood-based Portnoff firm for collecting delinquent real estate taxes from 2005.

Shamany’s motion would have essentially authorized Portnoff to continue collecting on delinquents, as it did over the previous year for 2004 delinquent accounts.
