UK Getting Tougher on Child Support Debt Collection

We turn our attentions now across the pond to England, home of scones, Dickens, and, now, tougher child support collection laws. The Guardian Unlimited has the story.

Britain?s failed Child Support Agency, according to the story, is to be replaced by a new organization with tougher powers to recover payments from ?errant absent? parents. ?Errant absent? is BBC for ?deadbeat.?

The new system proposed will encourage parents to make their own payment arrangements, allowing the newer streamlined agency to concentrate to track down child support skippers. There are also plans for a ?name and shame? component for repeat offenders who fail to pay for their children, as well as curfews and passport suspensions.
