Investors.com is running an opinion column about overseas call centers ? especially those in more Westernized countries.
Consumers, the piece shares, tend to be unhappy with recognizably ?foreign? accents when dealing with a call center. However, American companies would rather not spend money by employing American call center workers. The compromise, then, is the Philippines.
PeopleSupport spokesman Peter Hargittay is quoted in the piece when asked about his company?s move from Indian call centers:
?India pitched us very hard, but after looking at people in the Philippines we felt very strongly that’s the place to go,” Hargittay said. “Filipinos have much better Americanized accents and much more affinity for the American culture.”
